The Dean and the Heads of the Faculties of the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, feeling the burden of this hour, so critical for Greece, would like to remind everyone of something that may be considered to be self-evident: that Greece is an organic part of Europe. Greece and Europe belong together in a world sharing cultural and wider spiritual values. The unbreakable bonds between them cannot be attributed only to common roots in Greco-Roman culture, to the Renaissance with humanistic ideals nor to other milestones marking their long historical journey. Above all, they forge the contemporary spiritual common ground, which they share, with the fertile cooperation and exchanges in the field of education, in research and culture. As important as the economic aspect of the Greek issue is, similar debates will be raised continuously in the effort of the economic unification of Europe. However, as long as they maintain and further cultivate the already existing ideological cohesion, they will face the challenges appropriately, guided by solidarity and rationality. The free will of the Greek people does not consist only in the wish to remain in the European Union, but also in the wish for cooperation with other European peoples to achieve common ideals.
